Great B&B Winter Getaways

Many bed and breakfasts offer terrific winter getaways packages, often including amenities that would cost much more in the spring or summer. A recent press release from BedandBreakfast.com features many such getaways, many for less than $95 per person per night.

Elliott House B&B, Shaver Lake, California: Enjoy a day on the slopes or snowmobile, then return to this lovely B&B for hors d'oeuvres and wine. Retreat to your suite for a private candlelight supper topped off with homemade dessert and ruby port. This $189 package includes one night's accommodations, ensuite dinner, and all the extras, and is available Sundays through Thursdays until April 28, 2005. (559) 841-8601

Loghouse & Homestead on Spirit Lake, Vergas, Minnesota: Celebrate fifteen years of innkeeping with the Tweten family in a beautiful log homestead overlooking Spirit Lake. Stay any two nights and the second night is half price through April 2005. Must telephone to get this rate. (800) 342-2318.

Sugar Hill Inn, Franconia, New Hampshire: Take advantage of the Cold Cash January Offer, to insure that your stay is warm. If the temperature drops below zero degrees Fahrenheit from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. any day during your stay, take $10 off your bill for each degree down to minus ten. If it gets even colder, take $5 for every degree. Offer valid for regular room rates only; two-night minimum required. Sunset Hill House, Sugar Hill, New Hampshire: For downhill skiing at Cannon or Loon Mountains, discounted lift tickets cost $15 to $49, depending on the date and the mountain; children five and under ski free. Snowmobiling at a savings is also available through one of the area's top outfitters. Best of all, ski free at the Sunset Hill Nordic Center. River Run B&B, Fleischmanns, New York: Children twelve and under stay for free at River Run B&B, and ski for free at Belleayre Mountain Ski Center, just two miles away. For each full-price adult lift ticket purchased ($44), kids twelve and under ski free. B&B double rates range from $85-185 per night. Colonial Taylor Inn, Cambridge, Ohio: Snuggle up Sunday through Thursday through March in a fireplaced room with private bath for just $99 nightly. Enjoy full breakfast each morning, then refuel each afternoon with complimentary hot beverages and homemade sweets. Cross-country skiing at nearby Salt Fork State Park rounds out the day. Snowberry Inn, Eden, Utah: Treat yourself to skiing in the northern Wasatch Mountains where the snow is deep and lift lines are short. Rates include lodging, lift tickets to nearby Snowbasin Ski Resort (the 2002 Olympic venue), and bonus tickets to the 2002 Winter Olympic Museum (opening in February), plus hearty breakfasts and evening appetizers and beverages. The Nordic Ski & Snowshoe Deal starts at only $158 double per night, and includes accommodations in a standard lodge room with queen bed and private bath, along with a hearty Vermont breakfast each morning, unlimited use of the resort's sledding, ice skating, fitness and game-room facilities and cross-country ski and snowshoe passes on 85 km of groomed trails at the Resort's renowned Nordic Ski & Snowshoe Center, and all taxes and service fees.
