FLICK OFF!

Wednesday April 25, 2007
television We have reconstructed the Tower of Babel, and it is a television antenna: a thousand voices producing a daily parody of democracy, in which everyone's opinion is afforded equal weight regardless of substance or merit. -American journalist Ted Koppel

The average American watches 4 hours and 35 minutes of television each day. Imagine what you could do with that time!

Recognized annually since 1995, TV Turnoff Week (April 23 - 29), encourages participants to explore tv-free living. This week, I challenge you to flick off. Why not acquire a haiku habit, plan your future or undertake a mental marathon?!

Oh my god! 4 hours and 35 minutes of TV a day? I do much less than that (but I probably off-set that with computer time!).

A few months ago I turned off my telelvision and haven’t turned it back on. It’s so worth it. I’ve began reading the newspaper more for newsworthy information and I haven’t substituted it for more computer time. I’m so glad I did this.
