In West Branch, Michigan, the LogHaven Bed, Breakfast and Barn is operating completely off the electricity grid. Like Williams Pond Lodge, a bed and breakfast in Bucksport, Maine, LogHaven is not connected to commercial power. "With our wind turbine, batteries and inverter, we operate successfully and happily, and never get an electric bill," inkeepers Paul and Gail Gotter wrote on the inn's web site. On the first Friday of every month, the couple conducts an on-site seminar titled, "A Basic Introduction to Alternative Energy."
