Massachusetts B&Bs Off the Grid
Monday May 18, 2009
Inn Nature in Chesterfield, Massachusetts, and Starlight Llama in Florence, Massachusetts, are two more bed and breakfasts where the power is supplied completely off the electric grid. Both B&Bs were featured in a recent Boston Globe article. Inn Nature is built into a hillside on a 12-acre property, and is described on its web site as an "earth-sheltered, solar-powered home." According to the Boston Globe article, the inn's roof is "covered with four feet of soil and turf." At Starlight Llama, the B&B "has many passive solar and active solar systems" to supply needed power. The innkeepers at both bed and breakfasts are very happy to talk to guests about their efforts to be eco-friendly.
The Globe article also includes Williams Pond Lodge in Bucksport, Maine. Another off-the-grid B&B is the LogHaven Bed, Breakfast and Barn in West Branch, Michigan.
