Plans to convert a two-story antebellum house in Bluffton, South Carolina, into a bed and breakfast are being met with a mixed reaction. According to a story in the Beauford (South Carolina) Gazette, the home's owner renovated the 1850 building last year and would like to open it as a B&B. It once served as a boarding house for travelers. The chairman of the local planning commission said of the idea, "It would help build up the core of old town." However, some residents expressed concerns about commercialization in the historic town.
