Louise Egan wrote in to recommend Spencer on Main in Suffield, Connecticut: "My husband and I were heading back to New York from a weekend in the Berkshires but were too tired to finish the drive. We stopped in the late afternoon at Spencer on Main, which I had read about on the web -- a picture of the big, gorgeous Victorian mansion in the snow had made me download it and stick it in my file of 'just in case there's time' things to do.
"Our stay at Spencer on Main was the perfect way to end a fabulous long weekend. It is owned by Etienne and Caroline D'Otreppe -- he's Belgian and she's American, and both are so nice and welcoming, fun, warm, and interesting to talk with -- and yet they knew how to give John and me privacy too. That afternoon, the two of us sat out by the pool, walked around the cute, little colonial town (the B&B is in the Historic Preservation District -- one gorgeous colonial or Victorian mansion after another), and took a nap in the most comfortable bed before having dinner at a local restaurant.
"The house was every bit as cool inside as it looked from the outside. It was once Caroline's family's home and there are pictures and memorabilia from the past around the house, and a very full library in a room so cozy and full of interesting books that I could have spent the weekend in that room alone. After one of the best sleeps ever, John and I had a delicious, home-cooked breakfast around a beautifully set table and eventually headed back to New York City."
