A proposal to increase the number of bed and breakfasts on Oahu has advanced in the Honolulu City Council. According to an article in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin, the measure advanced on a 4 to 1 vote in the Zoning Committee. It will be at least another month or two before a final vote is taken. The article describes residents as "bitterly divided over the B&B issue." About two decades ago, the city council capped the number of bed and breakfasts permitted on the island. The current proposal would allow residents to apply for special-use permits to run a B&B.
