B&Bs to the Rescue!

Finding Zen at a B&B

So, what have you decided to do for the new year? If it's a common resolution like quitting a bad habit or increasing your exercise (and if you're like me), I bet right about know you're kind of scratching your head wondering why on earth you chose an ascetic's path for 2013. Well, believe it or not, bed and breakfasts can help you hold fast to your best intentions for the new year. They offer ideal settings for that meditation practice you were thinking about, some offer yoga and wellness weekends and they're nearly all non-smoking, so if you've decided to ditch the cigs, they can provide a safe haven away from temptation.

Bedandbreakfast.com has recently released its list of the Top 10 Inns For Finding Zen. They've got a southwestern retreat with an outdoor labyrinth and indoor steamroom; a yoga getaway in Costa Rica complete with saltwater infinity pool and nature trails leading to waterfalls and swimming holes; and a beach-adjacent inn in Oregon that features a "Zen bath" -- an outdoor soaking tub for two in their Zen garden. If none of those bring the centeredness you need to continue down the straight and narrow for 2013, check out my list of California B&Bs with fireplaces, where you can simply nap those cravings away. Then again, sometimes a little reward for good behavior is in order, so you'll also want to take a look at the recipe I just featured for Apple Coffee Cake with Raspberries.

As with any new regimen, I recommend sticking with whatever self-improvement program you committed to for at least a few more weeks. But nobody said you can't reward your efforts with a refreshing B&B getaway, now did they?

So have you found Zen at an inn? If so, let's hear about it!
