HAIGHT-ASHBURY AND WESTERN ADDITION

Alamo Square Inn
On Scott Street at Alamo Square Park in the Western Addition, this Victorian inn offers 12 guest rooms in its 1895 Queen Anne mansion and the adjoining 1896 Tudor Revival house. Guests can stay in a Victorian room, a Tudor room, a suite or a garden apartment (with one to three bedrooms and a kitchen). A full breakfast is provided.

Archbishop's Mansion, The
This 1904 French chateau mansion, built for the Archbishop of San Francisco and featuring magnificent woodwork and opulent décor, can be found on the northeast corner of Alamo Square Park near the city's famous Painted Ladies. Named for an opera and decorated in its honor, each of the 10 rooms and five suites includes a king- or queen-size bed with a full or partial canopy, period antiques and fine linens. Some rooms feature a whirlpool tub, fireplace or partial view of downtown. A deluxe continental breakfast is delivered to each guest room.

Baby Bear's House
Built in 1892 and boasting an exterior painted with seven colors plus gold leaf, this Victorian bed and breakfast offers the Bear Den suite with queen bed and double sofa bed, kitchen, dining area, fireplace stove, deck and private entrance; Mama Bear's Room with king bed; and the small Goldilocks Room with queen bed. Room amenities include voicemail and data ports; only the suite has a private bath. Baby Bear's House is located on Page Street between Central and Masonic in San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury District and one block from Golden Gate Park's Panhandle. Children are welcome, and a continental breakfast is served.

Chateau Tivoli, The
Hand-carved woodwork, crystal chandeliers, period wallpapers, Oriental carpets and Victorian furnishings adorn the 1892 Chateau Tivoli, named "the best Victorian in San Francisco" and the "greatest Painted Lady in the world" by Elizabeth Pomada and Michael Larson in "Painted Ladies Revisited." This inn on Steiner Street in the Alamo Square Historic District contains four suites (one king, one queen, and two with two bedrooms with double beds) and five guest rooms (one queen and four double). Among the room features offered are a tower sitting area with a view, 18th-century queen canopy bed from the Charles DeGaulle estate, fireplace, double shower and private entrance. A continental breakfast is served on weekdays, and brunch, featuring a warm main dish and champagne, is provided on weekends.

Grove Inn, The
There are 18 queen-bed guest rooms at this 19th-century Italianate-Victorian inn on the corner of Grove and Fillmore streets in San Francisco's Alamo Square Historic District. A continental breakfast is provided.

Inn 1890
This 1890 Queen Anne Victorian bed and breakfast has 16 guest rooms and suites, most with queen beds. Some offer bay windows, original wood fireplaces, hardwood floors, Oriental rugs, kitchenettes or private entrances. Use of voicemail, the laundry room and a health club are included at Inn 1890, which is located on Page Street, one block east of Golden Gate Park, in the Haight-Ashbury District. A continental breakfast is served.

Red Victorian Bed, Breakfast & Art
Built in 1904 as the Jefferson Hotel and becoming a hangout for flower children and hippies in the late 1960s, the Red Victorian today is a bed and breakfast dedicated to peace, ecology and global friendship. Its one suite with king bed and fireplace and 17 rooms with queen or double beds are colorfully decorated with such themes as Redwood Forest, Flower Child, Golden Gate Park, Japanese Tea Garden and Butterfly. The inn is situated on Haight Street at Cole in the Haight-Ashbury District near Golden Gate Park. A continental breakfast is served.
