To some, New York City may not seem like a place to find gorgeous bed and breakfasts. But tucked away in each of the Big Apple's five boroughs -- Brooklyn, Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens and Staten Island -- are dozens of terrific inns. Here's a look at some of the best bed and breakfasts in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Bed and Breakfasts

Akwaaba Mansion
Located in the Stuyvesant Heights neighborhood, this 1860s Italianate villa offers a full Southern breakfast and afternoon tea to guests of its four rooms, three with Jacuzzis. Among its other features are a game room, library, garden, sunporch, courtyard and nearby cafe with live jazz on weekends.

Bed and Breakfast Marisa
Children and pets are welcome in this B&B's two guest rooms; the South Room has queen and single beds and an eat-in kitchen with refrigerator and stove, and the North Room has a full-size bed, dining table, refrigerator and microwave. An in-room breakfast is served for an extra fee at this Prospect Heights brownstone, a few blocks from the Brooklyn Botanical Garden and Prospect Park.

Bed and Breakfast on the Park
Victorian antiques, Oriental carpets, stained-glass windows, 18th- and 19th-century paintings, and elaborate woodwork embellish this bed and breakfast on Prospect Park West. There are eight guest rooms, including one with a rooftop garden featuring views of Manhattan's skyline and the Statue of Liberty. A two-night minimum stay may be required. My husband and I stayed in the Park Suite, which features a king bed, park view and beautiful woodwork. We especially enjoyed the exquisite Victorian decor and delicious full breakfast.

Dekoven Suites
One basement-level guest apartment is available in this early 1900s three-story home on a cul-de-sac in the West Midwood section of Brooklyn. The accommodations include a private entrance, bedroom with double bed, sitting area with queen-size sleeper sofa, bath, laundry area and ping pong table. Children are welcome; breakfast is self-serve continental.
