Many bed and breakfasts feature regular murder mystery weekends. If you're interested but not sure how to make certain the weekend is fun, these tips can help you out.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 1 weekend

Here's How:

  1. Make your reservations well in advance. Many bed and breakfasts regularly sell out their murder mystery weekends.
  2. Consider filling the entire inn with your friends and family. A few B&Bs will even produce custom murder mysteries for groups of a certain size.
  3. Some (but not all) murder mystery weekends allow guests to participate as characters in the drama. Prepare yourself by reading any materials you receive.
  4. When possible, dress in character for your murder mystery. The more you get into it, the more fun you can have.
  5. Remember that it's an escape and relax. If you take a murder mystery weekend too seriously, it will quickly lose appeal.
  6. Don't be nervous about not remembering key elements. The plots for murder mystery weekends are generally simple -- they're designed so that you have a fair chance of uncovering the killer.
  7. Interact with the performers and other guests. Asking questions is the only way to uncover the killer!

Tips:

  1. Try to go to a murder mystery weekend with several people you know, at least for your first time. You'll probably feel more comfortable with them than you would a group of strangers.
  2. Play fair. Whatever ground rules are set (e.g. whether characters can lie), adhere to them.

What You Need:

  • A good attitude.
  • A costume, if you want.
  • An inquisitive mind.
