If you're planning a trip to New Orleans and want to soak up the unique atmosphere of the French Quarter, a stay in one of these bed and breakfasts will give you the chance to do just that. All of these inns are either in the French Quarter of New Orleans or within a couple of blocks.
Jazz Quarters at the Chartres Marigny
This 1830s town house in the 1400 block of Chartres Street, near the French Quarter, offers guest rooms with decor paying tribute to well-known musicians and accessed from the tropical courtyard.
La Maison Marigny
At the intersection of Bourbon Street and Esplanade Avenue stands this 1898 Queen Anne bed and breakfast with a sunroom and tropical, walled courtyard; all guest rooms have antique or reproduction queen beds, and one has access to the front balcony, which overlooks a residential block of Bourbon Street. La Maison Marigny was selected as an outstanding B&B in the June 2000 issue of Travel + Leisure.
Lamothe House
A pool, Jacuzzi, lush courtyard and goldfish pond highlight the grounds of the Lamothe House, a Victorian bed and breakfast on Esplanade Avenue where all guest rooms are furnished with antiques.
Lanaux Mansion
Located across the street from the French Quarter on Esplanade Avenue, this restored 1879 Renaissance Revival Victorian mansion boasts cast-iron filigree balconies, cypress wood shutters and a Victorian courtyard garden. Each room and suite at the Lanaux Mansion includes a kitchenette and features belongings of the home's original owner, such as furniture, art, books and keepsakes.
Maison DuBois
This century-old home, situated on Dauphine Street at the edge of the French Quarter, offers three guest rooms and two suites, all with reproduction furnishings, as well as a pool, hot tub and fountains in its tropical courtyard.
Maison Rouge
Renovated in 1999, this two-story home can be found one block from the French Quarter and four blocks from Bourbon Street. There are three guest accommodations with private entrances: a queen room with courtyard entrance for two guests, a two-room suite for three or four guests, and a two-bedroom apartment with balcony for up to five. No breakfast is provided, but each guest room includes a coffee maker, microwave oven and small refrigerator.
Mentone Bed and Breakfast
One suite with a kitchenette and balcony overlooking a patio garden is available in this 1896 Victorian camelback home near the French Quarter.
New Orleans Guest House
Period furnishings decorate the 14 guest rooms at this brick, gable-sided 1848 Creole cottage with lush veranda on Ursulines Street.
Olde Victorian Inn
Guests can experience the Victorian era throughout this inn (which is home to a few dogs and a cat) and its lush courtyard on North Rampart Street; most of the six guest rooms have a fireplace. A full breakfast is served, and wedding and reception packages for up to 25 can be arranged.
Quarter Esplanade, A
Esplanade Avenue between Royal and Bourbon streets is the setting of A Quarter Esplanade, which offers nine guest rooms, ranging from studios to a two-bedroom suite with a large balcony overlooking the avenue. All accommodations include kitchenettes and some have Jacuzzi tubs; guests also can relax in a heated pool in the lush courtyard. Children are welcome.
Rathbone Inn
Adorned with a wrought-iron front fence with filigreed gate, this 1850 Greek Revival style mansion on Esplanade Avenue provides 12 rooms and suites (all with a kitchenette and some with a balcony) and an outdoor Jacuzzi.
Royal Barracks Guest House
The five eclectic rooms and one Victorian suite at the Royal Barracks Guest House all have private entrances from the tropical, high-walled courtyard, which features a hot tub and wet bar. This home is located on Barracks Street between Royal and Bourbon; breakfast is not provided.
Royal Street Inn
Located a block from the French Quarter in an 1890s corner storehouse, the Royal Street Inn serves its guests complimentary beverages at its R Bar (rather than breakfast). All accommodations include vintage decor, a private entrance and balcony sitting area; suites, which sleep up to four, have kitchenettes.
Sun & Moon Bed and Breakfast
This antebellum Creole cottage on North Rampart Street less than a block from Louis Armstrong Park and Congo Square houses two suites for two guests and two apartments that sleep four. All accommodations have a private entrance, and the suites include a balcony or deck overlooking the courtyard.
