- East Brother Light Station
Point Richmond, California
This Victorian island inn, located less than an hour outside of San Francisco, offers overnight accommodations Thursday through Sunday. After a 10-minute boat ride from Point San Pablo Yacht Harbor, guests climb a vertical ladder 4 to 12 feet, depending on the tide level. There are four rooms with queen beds in the lighthouse and one room with a full-size bed in the fog signal building. Rainwater is collected in a cistern for use on the island, and only guests staying more than one night are permitted to use the showers. Rates include a lighthouse tour, hors d'oeuvres and champagne, a four-course dinner, a full breakfast, harbor parking, and a boat ride to and from the island. - Point Montara Lighthouse
Montara, California
Established in 1875, this lighthouse now serves as an hostel and is situated 25 miles south of San Francisco between Montara and Moss Beach. There are 45 beds, including five private rooms, and facilities include a kitchen, laundry, meeting room, storage area, lockers, and limited on-site parking. - Pigeon Point Lighthouse
Pescadero, California
This 115-foot-tall lighthouse-turned-hostel was constructed in 1872 on a cliff about 50 miles south of San Francisco. Fifty-two beds, including four private rooms, are available in the keeper's housing, and facilities include a kitchen, meeting room, storage area, and limited on-site parking.
- Charity Island Lighthouse Bed and Breakfast
Au Gres, Michigan
Overnight lodging is available in the spring and fall of each year at this lighthouse, originally built in 1857. Four bedrooms are available. Charity Island is 10 miles offshore from Au Gres, in the middle of Saginaw Bay. It's a great place for birdwatchers. - Sand Hills Lighthouse
Ahmeek, Michigan
Listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, Sand Hills Lighthouse was constructed in 1917 on the Keweenaw Peninsula's north shore, 25 miles northeast of Houghton. The largest and last manned lighthouse to be built on the Great Lakes, it has been owned by Bill Frabotta since 1961. It began accepting guests as a bed and breakfast after renovations were completed in 1995. Each of the inn's eight rooms is decorated in Victorian style and has a king- or queen-sized bed; two rooms feature a whirlpool bathtub and a balcony overlooking Lake Superior. A full breakfast is served.
