• Casa Conchita
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  Three 2-bedroom cottage apartments, offering a living room and kitchen as well as antique furnishings and a view of the tropical courtyard, are found at Casa Conchita, which was built in the early 1800s as the guest quarters to the mansion of Louisiana's first American governor. This Pool House unit includes a private pool. Coffee and juices are provided but no breakfast is served at this Faubourg Marigny inn. Children are welcome.

• Claiborne Mansion
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  A 40-foot pool and a landscaped courtyard highlight the grounds of this 1850s Greek Revival mansion in the Faubourg Marigny section of New Orleans. There are several suites, all with queen beds and marble baths. Two upstairs suites include a balcony overlooking Washington Park; a set of adjoining rooms can be combined to create a 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom suite; and a wheelchair-accessible room faces the garden and includes a sitting area and two twin size beds that can be converted into a king.

• Creole Cottage, A
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  Two blocks from the French Quarter, this 1815 Creole cottage with outdoor pool can accommodate six guests and contains a bedroom with queen bed, living room with queen-size sofa sleeper, kitchen, and bath. There are limited accommodations for children.

• DeBruyne Guest House
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  A town house apartment and two poolside apartments, each accommodating up to four guests, are found in these 1830s Creole cottages in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood. All units include period furnishings and a kitchen with a microwave and refrigerator stocked with beverages. Breakfast is not provided, and maid service is offered every three days for extended stays.

• French Quarter B&B
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  Among the offerings of this 1822 Creole cottage with room for six are two bedrooms with antique beds, a queen sofa sleeper, sitting areas, bath, kitchen, outdoor pool and courtyard. The host lives on the property, which is located one block from the French Quarter, and welcomes children.

• Gillham-Pierce House
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  Each of the three original dependency units of this 1877 Italianate bed and breakfast now contains a guest suite, offering one or two full beds; a breakfast area with a refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot; and a private entrance off the pool and courtyard area. There is also a guest suite with king-size bed in the main house, which is situated on Esplanade Avenue, a few blocks from the French Quarter. Children and pets are welcome.

• House on Bayou Road
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  Set on two acres featuring a pool, hot tub, gardens, ponds and patios, this 1798 plantation house boasts period antiques and king or queen beds in its eight guest rooms (three in the main house, four in the Kumquat House, and one private Creole cottage). Four accommodations, including the cottage, feature a Jacuzzi. During our stay at this Bayou Road B&B in the Esplanade Ridge Historic District, my husband and I enjoyed the helpfulness of the hostess, the splendor of the main house decor, and the spaciousness of our room, Bayou St. John. The full plantation breakfasts were outstanding, as were the food and service at the adjacent Restaurant Indigo.

• Lamothe House
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  A pool, Jacuzzi, lush courtyard and goldfish pond highlight the grounds of the Lamothe House, a Victorian bed and breakfast on Esplanade Avenue where all guest rooms are furnished with antiques.

  New Orleans, Louisiana
  This century-old home, situated at the edge of the French Quarter, features three guest rooms and two suites, all with reproduction furnishings, as well as a pool, hot tub and fountains in its tropical courtyard.

• Maison Lafayette
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  This Greek Revival cottage in New Orleans' Garden District houses one private guest apartment, which opens onto the pool and patio area and contains a living room, bedroom with a king bed, bath, and kitchenette.

• Olivier Estate
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  Among the offerings of this bed and breakfast in the Esplanade Ridge neighborhood are four suites and two rooms in its 1855 Spanish Colonial and 1871 Greek Revival mansions, plus an 1878 private cottage with full kitchen, which was the original slave quarters. All accommodations offer king or queen beds, and one suite includes a four-person Jacuzzi. The property boasts a pool, hot tub, and game room with a handcrafted Carrara marble and oak bar, a tournament-grade, mahogany pool table, a handmade Italian gaming table, and a 1950s slot machine.

• Quarter Esplanade, A
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  Esplanade Avenue between Royal and Bourbon streets is the setting of A Quarter Esplanade, which offers a heated pool in the lush courtyard. There are nine guest rooms, ranging from studios to a two-bedroom suite with a large balcony overlooking the avenue; all accommodations include kitchenettes and some have Jacuzzi tubs. Children are welcome.

• Seger-Rees House
  New Orleans, Louisiana
  Three guest suites with king or queen beds, one longer-term corporate rental unit, and a swimming pool can be found at this 1849 Greek Revival mansion in Algiers Point, three blocks from the ferry that drops passengers at the foot of Canal Street, between the French Quarter and the Warehouse/Arts District of New Orleans.
