Seattle

Space Needle Seattle has the Space Needle and Microsoft. What more could any city need? Well, a few cozy B&Bs are always a welcome respite from the hustle of city life. If you find yourself in the Pacific Northwest's largest city anytime soon, you should consider staying at one.

Built in 1909 on Seattle's Capitol Hill, the Bacon Mansion is centrally located so you can enjoy all of the city's attractions. Marble fireplaces, a grand piano, and more fill the 9,000 square feet of living space. Chances are that one of the Bacon's 10 rooms will fit your needs.

Also located on Capitol Hill, Hill House is a 1903 Victorian home now featuring five guest rooms. Breakfast could include such delicious treats as Blueberry French toast or fresh salmon quiche with asparagus. Like many bed and breakfasts, Hill House prohibits smoking and pets.

Soundview Bed & Breakfast is a self-contained guest cottage, including a complete kitchen and living room. A continental breakfast is served, but the kitchen is stocked with morning traditions like eggs, bacon, and pancake mix so you can prepare something more substantial if you choose. (You don't even have to do the dishes!)

Boston

One of the most historic cities in the country, Boston has a lot going for it. A walk along the Freedom Trail includes stops at Bunker Hill, Park Street Church, Boston Common, and more. The New England Aquarium is nearby, as is Fenway Park, home of baseball's Red Sox. With so much to do, staying at a bed & breakfast is the perfect way to unwind each night.

The Mary Prentiss Inn is located near Harvard University and Porter Square, with access to downtown a short subway ride away. Built in 1843, the Mary Prentiss Inn is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and received the Massachusetts Historical Commission Preservation Award in 1995.

Overlooking the Charles River on a quiet downtown street, Beacon Hill B&B is a walk away from the Boston Public Garden. Innkeeper Susan Butterworth spent many years in France and is a professional caterer, so the food should be exquisite. Room rates include breakfast under a crystal chandelier.
