Are bed and breakfasts handicapped accessible?

By Elizabeth Arneson, About.com

Question: Are bed and breakfasts handicapped accessible?
Answer: Relatively few bed and breakfasts are handicapped-accessible. Many B&Bs are located in historic properties and converted homes that have not been (and, in some cases, could never be) converted to become handicapped accessible.

If stairs are the problem, many inns do offer first-floor accommodations. If this is a consideration for you, be sure to ask where your room is located and let the innkeeper know your concerns before making a reservation.
