Southampton Parish recommended activities include climbing the eight flights of stairs at the 1846 Gibb's Hill Lighthouse for a panoramic view, hiking the scenic trails leading from South Road to the shore, strolling on the pink sand of Horseshoe Bay Beach and snorkeling in Church Bay.
Guests can enjoy a full breakfast while staying in the rooms or apartment at this Southampton home on Middle Road, which features a swimming pool and views of the Great Sound.
SANDYS PARISH
Bermuda's westernmost parish, Sandys is made up of the northern part of the Main Island plus several other islands, including Somerset, Watford, Boaz, Ireland South and Ireland North.
Historic sites in Sandys include St. James' Church, consecrated in 1789 after the original structure was destroyed by the great hurricane of 1780; Scaur Hill Fort and Park, offering spectacular views of the Great Sound and Ely's Harbour; and the 43-acre Heydon Trust Estate and Heydon Chapel.
We arrived at the tip of Ireland Island North by ferry to visit the Royal Naval Dockyard. Our day included swimming with the dolphins at the Maritime Museum's Dolphin Quest, watching glassblowers practice their craft at Dockyards Glassworks, observing a woodworking demonstration with Bermuda cedar at the Bermuda Craft Market, taking an architectural tour of the dockyards, viewing a variety of artwork at the Bermuda Arts Centre and lunching at the Frog and Onion Pub.
Located near the Cavello Bay ferry stop in Sandys Parish and a 10-minute walk from Somerset Village, the Old Cook House offers a two-story guest apartment with antique furnishings and a fireplace. A full English or continental breakfast is included.
