Recommended by Frommer's, this 1916 Craftsman-style house designed by Louis Christian Mullgardt served as a home for the chief executive of Goodyear Lumber Company's milling operation and also demonstrated the beauty of redwood for the company's customers.
Regular rates range from $315 for the Edgewood, a creekside cottage, to $490 for the Cypress, a main house room with ocean and garden views and a deck.
The Arts & Crafts Lodge contains six rooms, two with decks. Half of its rooms have ocean views; the others overlook a garden or meadow. Nearby are four 1930s cottages featuring fireplaces and ocean-view decks. All accommodations have king or queen beds, fireplaces, sitting areas, featherbeds, robes and CD players.
Aside from taking in the spectacular scenery of Greenwood Cove and the Pacific Ocean, guests can go shopping in Mendocino, wine-tasting at an Anderson Valley winery, hiking in a state park, or kayaking in the cove below the Harbor House. The inn offers a three-day wine school, which includes four nights' lodging, all meals and wine, winery tours, and vintner lectures.
A full breakfast and four-course dinner for two are provided in the Seaside Dining room, overlooking the gardens and ocean. Guests can expect California cuisine and a wine selection honored with Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence.
