More About The 1822 Bougainvillea House:
This building was originally constructed in 1822 for a plantation owner who used it when he visited New Orleans to sell cotton. During the Civil War, the 1822 Bougainvillea House served as one of three hospitals in the French Quarter. At that time, the street name was Rue de l'Hospital. It was later changed to Gov. Nicholls Street to honor a war general who later was elected governor or Louisiana.
