Location:
Keeper's House Inn is located on Isle au Haut, Maine, an island of the state's east coast reachable only by boat. The island, more than half of which is part of the Acadia National Park, receives only a few dozen visitors on a typical day.
Guest Rooms:
When I visited the Keeper's House Inn web site in April 2009, only the Woodshed Cottage was available for rental (and it is only rented on a weekly basis). The Woodshed Cottage is a separate building, surrounded on three sides by water with some spectacular views. It includes a double bed, private bath, and a full kitchen area. Several island cooks can also provide catered meals. Lodging is only available from spring through fall. Be sure to contact the inn for details. In the past, additional guest rooms have been available. It is not clear if or when that practice will resume.
Price Range:
The weekly rental fee (Monday to Monday) for two guests in the Woodshed Cottage ranges from $1,250 to $2,000, depending on the dates. The rate includes bicycles and a Wednesday night lobster bake by the lighthouse.
Breakfast:
Breakfast is not served at The Lighthouse Woodshed, but a full kitchen is available for guests to prepare their own meals. Island cooks are also available for catered meals at this island bed and breakfast.
Special Features:
A general store, where guests can buy food and other supplies, is located a mile and a half away from Keeper's House Inn. The Lighthouse Woodshed is powered by solar energy and a windmill. There is no television, no fax, and no Internet connection. A desalination machine provides water taken from the sea.

More About Keeper's House Inn:
To arrive at this 1907 lighthouse bed and breakfast in the midst of a spruce forest, guests take a 40-minute ride on a mail boat from Stonington, Maine, to the remote island of Isle au Haut. The lighthouse itself is owned and operated by the Town of Isle Au Haut, and the property is on the National Register of Historic Places.
According to the inn's web site, "the remote nature of the island and the frontier amenities at the inn beckon the adventurer and naturalist who know how to find gratification in thick forests and untouched shore."
