Inn at Oakmont
If you want to play golf at Oakmont Country Club, you'll need to know a member. But the Oakmont East Public Golf Course also is located near this inn, which offers a hotel-like feel with some antique furnishings. The Verona/Oakmont area is very nice, as the town is split by railroad tracks and lined on each side with delightful shops -- restaurants (Hoffstots and the Chelsea Grille were recommended to us), a bakery, and a mystery book shop among them. The Inn at Oakmont was built in 1994 and offers eight rooms with private baths. Two of the rooms have fireplaces and whirlpool bath tubs.
Lady of the Lake Bed and Breakfast
Guests won't be lacking activities at this B&B in Ligonier, 42 miles east of Pittsburgh. Several lodging alternatives are available while nearby activities include walking nature trails, paddle boating, visiting the petting farm, enjoying a heated inground pool, and professional tennis lessons. And that's just to start.
Lesley's Mountain View Country Inn
This restored 1850s farmhouse is furnished with 18th century American antiques and provides guests with a sweeping view of the nearby Laurel Mountains. Six rooms, each with a private bath. Two are located in the farmhouse and four in a converted barn.
Maggie West Bed and Breakfast
The Maggie West is located on a fairly busy street in a typical "near-city" neighborhood. The outside of the house showed a bit of disrepair when we visited, though the innkeeper was not available so we couldn't go inside. A fresh paint job would do wonders. Victorian decorations and a two-room dress and craft shop are among the features here.
Quiet House Bed and Breakfast
Country decor and a peaceful getaway are on tap here, 60 miles east of Pittsburgh in the Laurel Highlands Mountain community of Farmington. Three rooms with private baths are available. Complete wedding packages take advantage of the on-property chapel, and a stocked trout pond also can be found on the 264-acre estate.
