Recommended bed and breakfasts in Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
1900 Inn on Montford
Asheville, North Carolina - Martha and Russell Kegley: Luxurious accommodations. Rooms feature antique furniture that is actually comfortable. Lynn and Ron Carlson are outgoing, knowledgable about the area, and provide excellent recommendations. Morris the cat is a real sweetheart! We feel more like family there than paying guests.
Gay Street Inn
Washington, Virginia - The Bairs: The rooms are large and comfortable, it's in a beautiful area with views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, rates are reasonable and there is lots to do! The innkeeper, Donna, is energetic and friendly and keeps everything running well. She is willing to accomodate all of your needs. The best thing is that she does it all with out bothering the other guests.
Heritage Inn Bed and Breakfast
Franklin, North Carolina - Tammy Carter: A wonderful vacation experience. Area activities are plentiful (kayaking, gem mining, hiking, Indian reservations, rafting, waterfalls, golfing). Wonderfully decorated inn with informative, friendly hosts.
Inn at Merridun
Union, South Carolina - J. Britt: We were initially a bit disappointed because the restorations still had a way to go. However, gracious guests and fabulous food made up for this. With dinner, we had a curried carrot soup that was wonderful.
Knollwood House
Southern Pines, North Carolina - Candy Hitchcock: Exquisite!
Log House Bed and Breakfast
Hillsboro, Virginia - Elizabeth Arneson: Expect a personable innkeeper and delicious breakfasts. A perfect getaway during the fall foliage season, as it's located between the Blue Ridge and Short Hill mountains. Historic sites nearby.
Nassau House
Key West, Florida - Elizabeth and Lance Robertson: A perfect place to stay because it's in the heart of town, close enough to walk to Duval Street but far enough away that it's quiet at night. Hop on one of their bikes and head to the beach.
Needmoor Inn
Clarksville, Virginia - Bernice Greene: A great place to stay. They even welcome children. It's near Kerr Lake, near the North Carolina border. Owners Mr. and Mrs. Sweely go out of their way to make one feel welcome and enjoy their visit.
Nostalgia Inn
Pipestem, West Virginia - A. White: This inn, next to Pipestem State Park, is full of a lifetime of memories and antiques. The suites are spacious and very comfortable. The gourmet breakfast was really tasty and later we sipped wine in front of a roaring fireplace while it snowed. A perfect getaway for the weekend and I highly recommend it!
Sea Gate
Cape Charles, Virginia - Terrence and Cheronda Henry: This inn makes the beautiful setting of Virginia's historic shore pale in comparison. Chris has made his home a relaxing, alluring getaway. We have made it a part of our anniversary celebration.
Snug Harbor Inn
Madeira Beach, Florida: Mary Fitzpatrick - This is a true find. The hosts are local actors and they've decorated each efficiency apartment in a theatrical theme. The Inn overlooks beautiful Boca Ciega Bay and is across the street from the Gulf of Mexico. We woke to a sunrise on the deck and later enjoyed the spectacular Gulf sunset. The Snug Harbor Inn deserves a standing ovation!
Timberwolf Creek Bed and Breakfast
Maggie Valley, North Carolina - Marianna Brubaker: One of the most wonderful places I've ever visited. The owners meet you with joy and welcome. The rooms are luxurious, large and pampering. Sandee absolutely spoils you in any way possible. The babbling creek is noisy enough to drown out the world and soothing when it is time to sleep. This place is a little haven.
Up the Creek Bed and Breakfast
Deltaville, Virginia - Susie and Tony Sheidy: TLC began with frosted glasses of homemade limeade. Served gourmet breakfast on veranda overlooking the water. We were sent away with hugs and a magnolia as a reminder of our most romantic anniversary.
Village Inn Bed and Breakfast
Stone Mountain, Georgia - Lisa Granholm: Convenient to downtown Atlanta and just outside Stone Mountain Park, this historic inn is a great vacation spot as well as a stop for business travelers. Jacuzzi tubs and in-room coffemakers, phones and TVs.
Woodruff Bed and Breakfast
Atlanta, Georgia - Teri Fehl: The accommodations were lovely, and even though innkeeper Joan was on her way to the hospital to give birth the morning I checked out, she made sure I didn't go away hungry. I felt like a loved member of the family.
