Records indicate that John Rogers, the architect of St. Joseph Cathedral in Bardstown, performed some carpentry work on the original jail. When the town's "new jail" was built in 1874, the original jail was converted and used as the jailer's residence. Before the jail closed in 1987, it was the oldest operating jail complex in Kentucky. Tours of the facility are provided to guests and also available to the general public.
