Baladerry Inn
A tennis court graces the landscaped grounds of the nine-room Baladerry Inn, situated about three-and-a-half miles southeast of town center near the battlefield. The inn's oldest portion dates to 1812 and served as an Army of the Potomac field hospital. The 1812 House offers a queen room with a whirlpool tub and a king (or two twins) room; the Main House contains two queen-bed rooms; and the Carriage House has four queen rooms (two with private patios and two with fireplaces and sofa beds) and one suite that boasts a private patio, fireplace, sunroom with sofa bed, and private entrance to the tennis court. Children over age 12 are welcome.
Battlefield Bed and Breakfast
At this 1809 stone farmhouse, each morning begins with a history program on such topics as the life of an infantryman and Civil War medicine. Also, on Friday evenings there are ghost stories, and on Wednesday afternoons guests can learn about Civil War weaponry. The six rooms and two suites are decorated with handmade quilts, antiques, and Civil War art and artifacts related to units that fought on the South Cavalry Battlefield, which surrounds the bed and breakfast. Most rooms have queen beds and battlefield views; two include fireplaces. Located about four-and-a-half miles southwest of Gettysburg next to the battlefield, this child-friendly 30-acre farm with a pond offers horse boarding in three box stalls.
Brierfield II Country Guest Cottages
Two guest cottages with kitchens stand a short distance from the Main House at this 16-acre property five miles northwest of town. The Salt Box contains a queen canopy bed, and the Pool House has a king bed (or two twins) and a porch.
Cornerstone Farm Bed and Breakfast
On more than 100 acres of farmland five miles northwest of Gettysburg, this 1890s bed and breakfast provides five guest rooms -- three with king beds, one with a queen, and one with two twins. All rooms offer fireplaces, two boast Jacuzzis and one has a private balcony. Guests can relax in the outdoor pool bordered by gardens, schedule an escorted horseback ride through the farm's fields and wooded trails or on the Gettysburg Battlefield, or take a stroll and observe the quarter horses, Texas longhorn cattle and wildlife that make their home here. Children age 10 and up are welcome.
Doubleday Inn
The Gettysburg National Military Park Battlefield, about one-and-a-half miles northwest of Lincoln Square, is the setting for the nine-room Doubleday Inn, featuring views of the town and the battlefield from Oak Ridge. The English country decor is complemented by antiques and Civil War memorabilia. On selected evenings, a Civil War historian stops by to discuss the Battle of Gettysburg. Children over age 8 are welcome.
Gettysburg Pond View Farm Bed & Breakfast
In a valley seven miles west of Gettysburg, this Civil War-era brick farmhouse with a pond contains three guest rooms, all with queen beds. Residing on the 25-acre property are a goat, horses and sheep. Children over age 8 are welcome, and open-pasture horse boarding may be available.
Herr Tavern Bed and Breakfast
All 16 rooms at this 1815 country inn and restaurant boast a fireplace and most contain a Jacuzzi. With decor ranging from country and floral to Civil War and hunting lodge themes, 11 rooms occupy the Tavern building; its original section has five rooms (four queens, one double, and one with a balcony), and its newer portion has six rooms (all with queen beds, one with a balcony, and four with views of the battlefield). The five Victorian-style rooms in The Annex building have queen beds and either a patio or deck. Located two miles northwest of town center, the property served as the first Confederate hospital during the Battle of Gettysburg. Children over age 12 are welcome.
Lightner Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast
Situated four-and-a-half miles southeast of Gettysburg on 19 acres with woods and trails, the 1862 Federal-style brick Lightner Farmhouse served as a field hospital for the Union Army during the Battle of Gettysburg. Quilt designs were the inspiration for the inn's four rooms, which have king or queen beds. Also available are two suites -- the Pine Tree Suite with a queen bed and a daybed with trundle on the third floor of the farmhouse, and the two-story Walnut Cottage with a king bed, daybed with trundle, old beehive oven, breezeway and deck on the site of the property's original summer kitchen. Children over 10 are welcome.
