Although cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego are better known, the state capital -- Sacramento -- is also a city worth visiting.
Sacramento is rich in history, home to generally good weather, and provides some great bicycling opportunities.
While you're in Sacramento, a visit to the historic state Capitol building is in order. Completed in 1874 at a cost of $2.4 million, the Capitol was built in the Renaissance Revival style and bears a striking resemblance to the national Capitol in Washington, D.C. In 1971, a major reconstruction project was undertaken (six years, $67.8 million) to make the Capitol better able to withstand earthquakes.
And the Sacramento area isn't without its share of alluring bed and breakfasts.
